Our today’s event is in commemoration of the International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation, which is observed around the globe on February 6th every year.
For thousands of years, patriarchy has been trying to control women, their sexuality in many different ways. At times, in the name of religion, other times, in the name of family honour or traditions.
FGM, or Female Genital Mutilation is one such attempt to literally curb women’s sexuality out of their bodies.
Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons and is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights, the health, and integrity of girls and women. We, WCI, condemn this barbaric act and demand an immediate end to this.
