Building Sensitivity Towards Survivors’ Narratives: The Approach that Matters
We organized this event to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence that starts on November 25th and goes on until December 10th of every year.
We think that most of the events on this subject keep saying “no violence against women” or we should stop “violence against women”, but there is a huge gap where it comes to understanding the violence from the survivors’ perspectives.
So, we thought we will focus on that perspective for a change. Besides, in a lot of cultures, there is a lack of sensitivity in understanding the violence from the survivors’ perspectives within the legal system, in media, even within families. Also, it’s important to talk about how the inherent misogyny of certain cultures is impacting how the survivors are coming out and disclosing the abuse or whether or not they are getting justice for them.
